The Kauai Long Tank Sundress
Hawaiian orchids against large heliconia leaf. The background of white-on-white coconut palms adds extra dimension and texture. This is a very handsome and forthright pattern, one that has stood the test of many decades of similar design. Always popular, always in style.
Features a back zipper, bra friendly tailoring, and two 19 inch slits on both sides below the hips. Made by Kys Apparel of Honolulu.
Native Hawaiian tradition indicates the name's origin in the legend of Hawaiiloa — the Polynesian navigator attributed with discovery of the Hawaiian Islands. The story relates how he named the island of Kauai after a favorite son; therefore a possible translation of Kauai is "place around the neck", meaning how a father would carry a favorite child.
